So far, the following law schools have sent me application fee waivers:
- University of Michigan at Ann Arbor
- Valparaiso University
- Indiana University at Bloomington
Apparently the midwest wants me, which is unfortunate because I think I fell in love with New York all over again this weekend.
Odd: a few nights ago, David and I were folding laundry or doing some other mundane task when I suddenly burst into "I've Been Workin' on the Railroad." I don't think that song had been any part of my life for at least ten years, but it was somehow activated in my weird little brain just then and I couldn't help singing it. I was having lunch with the Paterson Rotary Club the next day, and after we all sang the Star-Spangled Banner, the man with the microphone (perhaps the official song-leader of this organization, I don't know) followed it up with that very song! I was flabbergasted.
It seems pretty odd to me that a song I hadn't heard or even thought of since childhood would occur to me one night and then be brought up again only a half-day later.
I saw an amazing baseball game today. I've seen the Yankees twice: once away and now once at home. Both times they played the Toronto Blue Jays. The game in Toronto was a horrible excuse for major-league baseball, and the game I saw today was just about the best you could ask for from major-league baseball. I didn't get to see any of Derek Jeter's turn-around-in-midair-and-throw-to-first plays, but otherwise it was perfect.
My good friend Jen came to visit from Boston on Friday night. David and I picked her up from the bus terminal around midnight and we went right to sleep. Jen and I spent Saturday afternoon in New York eating Joe's Pizza, browsing the NYU bookstore, shopping, and walking over the Brooklyn Bridge (cheesy, but I've always wanted to do it and now I have). David made a very delicious dinner for us and we played a game called Settlers of Catan that Jim introduced to us. Today we went into New York around 10 am, shopped a bit more, made our way to Yankee Stadium, watched a fabulous game, and then went back to the bus terminal where she left to go home to Boston. It was a very full weekend, but that's ideal for me. If I have less free time, I use it much more efficiently! If all I had to do all day was sharpen my pencils, I'd never get around to it. If I have a major task to complete, all of sudden it is imperative that I sharpen my pencils AND clean my desk AND organize my sock drawer etc. The secret to my productivity is that I'm always putting off some larger task. Now you know.
